Will Travel for Charity

It goes without saying that I love to travel. There is so much to learn about myself, about others and about the world we live in. I also like to think of myself as charitable but with limited time and resources, I’m always looking for creative ways to give back. Recently, I found a great offer that combines the two and I just had to pass it on.

Like many people, I’ve long known about charitable organizations that take car donations as contributions to their causes. Kars for Kids is such an organization where your car donation not only helps you as a write-off for your taxes, but contributes to those less fortunate as well. It’s a mutually beneficial arrangement for both sides. Now, in addition to your tax benefit, Kars for Kids is giving back even more. Now, when donating your car to charity you can also receive a free vacation voucher to one of almost 40 different cities! What other charity does that?

It’s a fantastic combination. Imagine, winning a 2-night, 3-day vacation, just for donating a car that you wouldn’t have gotten much for anyway. And with so many cities to choose from, you’re bound to find a destination that you’ll absolutely love. It’s not every day that you can win a free vacation and now you can combine being nice to others while simultaneously doing something nice for yourself as well. Being charitable has always felt good, now it will feel even better as you relax and recuperate during your free vacation!

10 Best Road Trips in the US

In this economy, who can afford to fly? Besides, hurtling through the air in what amounts to a bus with wings, you’ll miss all the beautiful scenery that our country has to offer—purple mountains majesty, amber waves of grain, shining seas, and all that.

If your car isn’t terribly old, you check out any kind of  long-term road tests with your car brand to see if there’s anything to be aware of. Nothing? Alright… then lets get going!

Next time you’re looking to get out of the house, try a road trip (like one of these) instead:

1) Highway 1

Take a trip to our country’s Northeast with a drive north along Highway 1 in Maine. You’ll twist and turn through a million little towns and some gorgeous scenery.

2) PCH 101

The Northeast is nice, but for some real excitement, drive up the Pacific Coast Highway 101 from LA to Astoria, Oregon. You won’t find yourself cruising along at top speed, but that’s not the point. Take in the beauty of the California and Oregon coasts: beaches, cliffs, and thousands of delightful seaside communities.

3) Route 66

Sticking with our famous highway theme, why not take the most famous American highway of them all, and go right through the middle of the entire country? Get your kicks on … you know the rest.

4) The Oversea Highway

Key West to Miami to Key Largo, travel the 105-mile highway that goes straight over some of the most beautiful water you’ve ever seen.

5) Blue Ridge Parkway

Take in a taste of the great American Appalachians on this route that will take you through the back roads and scenic byways of North Carolina and Virginia.

6)  Gatlinburg, Tennessee

Gatlinburg is in the middle of nowhere, but it’s some of the greenest nowhere you’ve ever seen. Take US Route 321 toward the great town of Gatlinburg, TN, and pass the birthplace of Dolly Parton (Pigeon Hole), where she has erected one the of the most family-friendly amusement parks in the eastern US—Dollywood.

7) Anchorage to Seward, Alaska

Tired of the continental US? Give Alaska a try. Alaska has some of the most beautiful and pristine scenery in the entire world, let alone America. Take the Seward Highway from Anchorage to the southern coast and enjoy dense forests, majestic mountains, fantastic fjords, and more. Just watch out for the moose.

8) Sedona, Arizona

The American Southwest has some of the most beautiful and statuesque rock formations in the entire world. If you’re coming north from Phoenix, take route 179 north to Sedona and breathe in the fantastic red rock that lies along your path.

9) Cape Cod, Massachusetts

The Old King’s Highway runs along the Massachusetts coast, and it’s worth a few hours of your time to drive along that route in the spring and early fall, where you can see the beautiful foliage and coastline that our country displays for you.

10) Hawaii

Let’s not kid ourselves, just about any scenic road trip in Hawaii is going to be beautiful, and it’s not going to take very long. But if you are on the island of Maui, make sure you take a couple of hours to drive the Hana Highway through a rural and relatively untouched part of the island.
