How to Pick the Perfect Vacation Rental for Any Event

It was to be the perfect event: all days had been planned; all activities had been secured. A budget had been balanced and a city had been researched. You had even managed to avoid the dreaded hotels, and had instead chosen a rental home for your group to relax in. All was to be right with the world.

It instead proved to be a disaster.

The home was too small, tucked far from adventures, lacking all wanted style. It forced your friends to share space, kept them trekking for long miles. The grand event was ruined — and all because vacation rentals weren’t been properly utilized.

The desire to provide alternatives to hotels is a wise one. Refusing to offer that desire the same dedication you give to the rest of your plans, however, is not. All rentals must be selected carefully, with specific standards met to ensure results.
While considering any home, you must be aware of:

Proximity

The purpose of vacation rentals is to offer convenience — allowing guests to indulge in the thrills they desire without sacrificing luxury. Such luxury must be kept centered within all attractions, however. The schedules of each event (the obligations and necessary tasks) must be followed. They can’t be ignored. And choosing a home that is distanced too far from these will only cause frustration. Be certain a rental is near all activities. Trips to London should be settled in the Kensington District, for example, while Cancun excursions should be directly on the coast.

Intentions

There is one truth of events: they succeed or fail on the whims of their participants. The intentions of the group dominate all days. It’s essential then to select a home that provides them with what they need. Larger parties may prefer a cosmopolitan atmosphere (such as New York or Paris) to ensure all interests can be addressed. More intimate groups, however, may wish to seek the quiet (like Myrtle Beach or California vineyards). The desires of those involved should determine what’s selected.

Space

The great salvation of rentals has forever been their size. They’re not shaped to claustrophobic corners and tiny corridors (unlike their hotel counterparts). They’re instead able to offer square footage, ensuring that all guests are comforted. The kind of events those guests will be attending, however, will determine what type of lodgings are needed. Be certain to understand how long an activity will last, how many individuals will arrive and how much space will be needed.

Choose a rental that will accommodate both the group and the event itself. Apartments may sometimes suffice or homes may instead be wanted.

Commutes

All events are meant to accomplish specific tasks — whether reunions, budget comparisons or marital bliss. Such tasks require transportation, however (unless you wish to walk the endless hills of San Francisco or try to navigate the alleys of Rome without  a GPS). Be certain a rental can offer access to commute methods: whether cars, subways, trains or taxis.
The perfect vacation rentals do exist. They simply must be sought. Know what an event entails and what a group requires — and then choose a home that will satisfy.

Travel for Good

If you have ever had the experience of traveling to a beautiful beachfront location, only to spend your whole vacation feeling guilty because the natives who serve your umbrella drinks are living in shacks, then a volunteer vacation might be an option to consider for your next excursion. You will see a new place, meet interesting people, and contribute your special knowledge or the sweat of your brow to help others. Here are just a few ideas:

  • WWOOF: World Wide Opportunities on Organic Farms is an organization that will help to place you on an organic farm in almost any region on the planet. You volunteer to provide labor for a specified period of time and you receive accommodations, food, and experience living the organic life. This is a great opportunity for people who have always wanted to farm but have never done so.
  • Habitat for Humanity International: Global Village trips will send you to other countries to help build houses for people in need. You do not need construction experience, and you may get to travel to places that include Senegal, Macedonia, Honduras, or another area. You will need to file a formal application, and most countries require that you be at least 18 years old.
  • World Wildlife Fund Youth Volunteer Program: For individuals aged 20-27 who can pay their own travel expenses, you can apply to work on the WWF’s conservation programs around the world. Some locations include Madagascar, Bhutan, and Paraguay. You may work on an ocean, forest, or grassland conservation project.

Whatever you do, have a great time making a difference!
