Keeping Your Money Safe on the Road

Is your money safe while you’re on the road? Naturally, the closer you keep your money to your person (and preferably where you could see someone’s hands reaching for it), the less likely you are to have it suddenly disappear on you. That can be really embarrassing if you end up going to a cafe later on and have to plead poverty to its owner and hope you don’t get beaten up. There is, however, a great way to make sure that things like that don’t happen in the first place, even if you do happen to have your fanny pack stolen or whatever.

Get a prepaid card. Yes, they do look like a regular credit card, but a prepaid card is not the same thing at all. It is, in fact, a cleverly disguised debit card that still works in the same way (and offers the same theft and fraud protection) as a credit card does. If your card gets lost or stolen, you won’t have to worry about being out all of the money you put into it. And even more importantly, you won’t have any kind of worries about some thief racking up all kinds of debts in your name and possibly thrashing your credit rating for their own benefit.

Simply put, a prepaid card will allow you to keep your money safe on your trip and enjoy it how you want to. If worse comes to worst, you might even be able to get a replacement card (or some travelers checks) in time to salvage your vacation without having to just bum around until your plane leaves. That would sap the fun out of just about anybody’s time — good thing you won’t have to do anything like that. All you have to do is load some money on the card, and keep the cancellation number in a handy place. Then you’re covered.
