When the rat race starts to get to you and you feel it’s time to take a break from it all, what better way than booking a trip on a train. While traveling by rail you get to leave the driving to someone else while you and your whole family are able to relax and sit back and enjoy the scenery. There are cars on board for dining and lounge purposes. You can ride coach for the most economy, or book a private roomette or bedroom, some featuring a private bath area.
Along some routes, the National Park Service’s rangers offer informative presentations as part of the “Trails and Rails” program. Beyond this, most of the entertainment during your travels is left up to you. If you are a reader, this is a great time to catch up on your reading. Most passenger trains now offer WiFi service, so if you have a wireless device you would like to connect to the Internet on, be sure to bring it along.
If you are traveling with your family, pack playing cards and other games that you can easily partake in. Portable DVD players are nice for watching movies on. Checking out the views as you travel are one of the highlights of the trip, as are enjoying conversing with your travel mates or meeting new people on the train.
Train travel is certainly not the fastest way to get from point a to point b, but it is highly enjoyable. Traveling this way hearkens back to the olden days, when life was slower and much simpler. After a relaxed train ride you may find yourself feeling much more patient than you did when you first came aboard.
